We’d like to extend the warmest congratulations to former Hammond Drama student Gemma Griffiths for obtaining a Doctorate in English Literature and Cultural History, awarded by Liverpool John Moores University in April 2020. Her thesis was on ‘The Politics and Aesthetics of 1990s Punk Women’s Writing: Reading Riot Grrrl after Kathy Acker and against the anti-feminist backlash’.

Gemma given us the following message to share:

“The Hammond School provided some of the most wonderful and intellectually stimulating years of my life. I will never forget playing Madam Thenardier in the schools’s production of Les Misérables in 2011. I want express my sincerest gratitude to all the staff, both academic and vocational, who assisted me on the journey. Thank you so much.”

We are beyond proud of Gemma’s accomplishments and her news has come at such a perfect time to remind us all of what passion and hard work translate to.

Here’s to many more stories like Gemma’s for years to come!
