Stephen Mear CBE

We at The Hammond were extraordinarily excited to welcome award-winning choreographer and director Stephen Mear CBE to our virtual world to host a Q & A Session with our Theatre Arts (Advanced), BA, and Diploma students earlier this term. We're proud to be part of such a supportive theatrical community and feel exceptionally proud of the talent we produce to expand and enhance that community.


Stephen's career so far has been wildly impressive choreographing shows across the world, not least on the West End and Broadway and we're beyond thankful to him for taking the time to speak to Hammond students.


His theatre credits include:


Mary Poppins - (joint choreographer with Sir Matthew Bourne, London, Broadway, UK tour, US Tour, Australia, Mexico and Vienna. Received Olivier Award for best Theatre Choreography. In 2010 they received the LA Drama Circle Critics award for best Choreography and in 2011 the Helpmann award in Australia for Best Choreography. They also received a nomination for a Tony Award and a Drama Desk Award).


Marigny Theatre – Funny Girl (Director/Choreographer), Guys and Dolls (Director/Choreographer).

Royal Albert Hall – Guys and Dolls Concert (Director/Choreographer).

ENO - Chess, Sunset Boulevard (Broadway), On the Town.

Théâtre du Châtelet – 42nd Street (Director/Choreographer), Singin’ In The Rain (Grand Palais), On the Town.

Kilworth House - Top Hat (Director/Choreographer), Thoroughly Modern Millie (Director/Choreographer).

Donmar – City of Angels (Garrick), The Vote, The Resistible Rise of Arturo Ui.

Curve – White Christmas (Dominion), Scrooge the Musical.

Chichester Festival Theatre – Mack and Mabel, The Pajama Game, She Loves Me (Director/Choreographer), Amadeus, Music Man, Funny Girl, How to Succeed In Business, Putting it Together and The Grapes of Wrath.

Milwaukee Rep – Guys and Dolls, Dreamgirls, Ragtime.

Broadway – Die Fledermaus, The Little Mermaid.
