On Sunday 17th May, a number of The Hammond's Professional Diploma, BA students and members of our alumni, led by Alison Hughes, took part in an online concert which was broadcast on the school's Facebook and YouTube channels.
Students covered a number of old and popular classics to combat the corona blues, in the hope that they are able to put a smile on the faces of our audiences. Miss Hughes, various members of staff and members of our student body spent the week leading up to Sunday contacting care homes to explain to event and a number of organisations across the country tuned into to watch. A number of our Seniors either currently work as key workers, their parents do or they know of family and friends who are busy in care homes and on the front-line taking care of our most vulnerable citizens and it was great to give back in the best way we know how. The feedback has been exceptional and we are already planning another event so keep an eye for a date announcement!
When Miss Hughes explained the plan and put out a call for performances, Hammond students, as usual, didn't hesitate to get involved in this project in order to help bring a smile to those so selflessly working whilst we are safe at home. We received so many submissions that we couldn't include them all but they will get their airing in the next event.
As an institution we'd like to pass on our thanks for all the work the UK's and the world's carers are doing to look after us all, it is appreciated in more ways than we can describe.
