Under the supervision of Miss Miller, Year 8 have recently taken part in a Zoom political environmentalism debate regarding the natural resources of Brazil. We'd like to take this opportunity to commend Year 8 on their exceptionally mature approach the subject matter and we are proud of their ability to think critically and respect each other's view points. Below is a write up of the debate by Alice Burke:

The debate:

Brazil should be allowed to use all their natural resources, unrestricted by the United Nations, to promote wealth in their nation’.

In geography we decided to do a debate on the Brazilian rainforest which we were studying at the time. In this debate we had two sides, the conservationists who were against the deforestation of the Brazilian rainforest and the Brazilian government who were for deforestation because they wanted to improve their economy. As a class we are budding conservationists but we put that aside and got split into 2 groups by form (8KM and 8CH) so even though we did not necessarily agree with the points we were making we had to give a persuasive and professional performance in the debate and that’s what happened. During the debate and the research, we put in we found out some facts and reasons for both for and against to positively change our ways and compromise in order to preserve the rainforest and Brazil's economy. This debate had a positive outcome because we learnt and developed our opinions which will help us to do our part in helping the environment, the less privileged and the world.
